Fiddle Away for Cash at Westville’s Sixth Annual
Fiddler’s Contest held on July 21
LUMPKIN, GA. (2001) - Fiddle fans young and old are invited to observe some friendly fiddlin' at Westville’s sixth annual Fiddlers’ Contest July 21 beginning at 2 p.m. EDT. The fanciest fiddler will be awarded $200, while the second and the third place contestants will receive $100 and $50 respectively.
Each contestant with no accompaniment or amplification will be required to play three tunes of their choice for the elimination round: One (1) fast piece; One (1) slow piece; and One (1) open choice. The only two pieces that cannot be played are "ORANGE BLOSSOM SPECIAL" and "LISTEN TO THE MOCKINGBIRD".
Music will fill the air all afternoon as skilled musicians participate in open-stage jam sessions before and after competition. Onlookers will be entertained by melodic rhythms and harmonious beats escaping the fiddling of the performers. Music lovers of all ages will enjoy a day of toe-tapping tunes and exciting competition.

Westville Fiddle Contest
for Youths
(ages 12 and under)


A new feature of Westville’s annual Fiddling Contest will be a category of competition for young people under thirteen years of age.
The contest will be held at 11 a.m., preceding the regular event. Only the first twenty contestants to register will be allowed to compete. Deadline to register by phone (1/888-SEE-1850) is July 21.
Each contestant will play one tune. The top ten will be called back to play a second tune. The top five of those will receive prizes.
All contestants will receive recognition. Those not making the first cut will receive a certificate. The top ten will receive a prize. The top five will receive ribbons and small cash prizes.
Admission is free to all contestants. Each contestant can get free admission for one adult as well. Other adults coming with a contestant will receive a $2 discount on admission, normally $8.
