New Office for Westville
Kirbo Complex will open in early 2001

Westville’s Thornton House will soon open as the Kirbo Complex, the new Westville administrative office. The majority of the funding for the restoration and construction has come from the Thomas M. Kirbo and Irene B. Kirbo Charitable Trust of Jacksonville, Florida.
Westville’s current office is in the Rawson House, a historic house inside the Village Proper. The move to the Kirbo Complex will remove from the Village the intrusive activity of the business office.
The location of the Kirbo Complex is about seventy yards south of Westville’s main entrance. Visitors to the business office from now on will easily find the office.
The Thornton House is a historic structure dating to about 1830. It was moved from southern Stewart County to its current location about 1960, several years before Westville was conceived. When the Julian Singer Family gave the land for Westville in 1966, the Thornton House was included in the gift.
The new office complex will include four offices downstairs and one upstairs. A new meeting room and kitchen have been added to the rear of the building, resembling a detached kitchen.
The restoration of the house began a few years ago with a grant from the Knight Foundation of Miami. The new building will have the John S. and James L. Knight Reception Hall. Work continued through a grant from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation. The Robert W. Woodruff Meeting Room will be dedicated with the Kirbo Complex.
