School Visits
We have designed this portion of our web site for teachers. This reflects our belief in the importance of teachers to Westville.
The idea that became Westville was a teacher's idea. Col. John West was a history professor at North Georgia College in Dahlonega, Georgia when he began to collect mid-19th century artifacts. He developed an outdoor museum where students came to learn about this period that they couldn't experience in any other way.
Col. West's collection became the nucleus of Historic Westville. As Westville became a reality and during its subsequent growth Col. West's inspiration and purpose remained tantamount. Westville remains foremost a place for teachers to bring students.
If you are a teacher and you want to get acquainted with Westville as a possible place to bring your school class for a field trip, you may visit Westville as our guest. Present your valid school ID at the museum store to receive your complimentary pass.
