Westville On the Road

For over forty years, Historic Westville has provided quality student programs and special events on 1850s life. Now, because we know that not all schools are able to take field trips to enjoy the experience Westville has to offer, we are going "On the Road" to bring our top-quality unique hands-on educational opportunities to your school!

Continuing our practice of high-quality programming that meets current educational standards Westville will bring museum educators and craftsmen to your school to provide hands-on learning experiences with our new outreach programs.

Outreach programs are available on Tuesday & Wednesday, subject to availability. Programs can be from 2 hours to a full day in length, depending on your need. Cost is only $10.00 per student, plus travel to your school.

Our Pioneer Daily Life program is designed for 100+ children and introduces your students to 19th century daily life and crafts. With the help of our Westville educators and craftsmen, your students get first hand experience of activities of long-ago that will help them to compare and contrast their own daily life to those of the 1850s. This program is divided into five smaller stations, giving students an opportunity to try their hand at making butter, grinding coffee, milking a "cow" and even try on reproduction clothing from the era.

Historic Westville's Five Station Guide

One – Pioneer Food

From butter churning to coffee grinding, students will be introduced to food staples of the 1850s.

Two – Children’s Chores

Taking out the garbage? Not in this program! Children in the 1850’s milked cows, hauled water, and washed laundry by hand.

Three - The Pioneer Home

Log cabins were hand-built by families. Students can examine the different styles and techniques before creating models of their own.

Four - Children’s Clothing

What to wear? Ever wonder how people dressed in the 1850s? Westville will provide many samples of boys and girls clothes for a most memorable dress-up.

Five - Your Option

Westville can offer a hands-on craft from our selection that all will enjoy.
